Notes
Copper can be refined till it is worth 2s. or 2s.6d. per pound weight, but it is uneconomical to use such metal for coining. People have had blanks made of this highly refined copper, had them struck in the Mint without Newton's knowledge, polished the coin to give it a high gloss and showed it round to discredit the Mint issue.||Printed in NC, 6: 453-4.
